May Content Ideas for Instagram and Facebook

I get it… coming up with content can be time-consuming and hard! Here are 31 days of content for you. This isn’t in any particular order, besides holidays, so feel free to switch up the order to whatever works best for your social media and brand!

  1. Motivation Monday: Share a motivational quote, whether it’s a graphic or a video!

  2. Share a tip: Whatever service or product you’re selling, your followers would probably enjoy learning some sort of tip! If you’re a real estate agent, you can share a tip on selling homes… how would you advise a seller if they asked you how they can get better curb appeal?

  3. Small Business Week: First week in May. Feature your favorite small businesses near you! (Tip: If you did a branding session and took photos at one of your favorite local coffee shops, this would be perfect to use for this!)

  4. Debunk a myth about your industry: What is a common myth in your industry and what is the truth behind it?

  5. Cinco De Mayo

  6. Demonstrate your product in use: If you own an eco-friendly shop that sells shampoo bars, you can show your followers how to use it and tell them why it’s better than using a bottle of shampoo. If you’re a candle maker, you can show your followers the correct way to care for their candles.

  7. Your story: Why did you get into this business? How’d you get here? (Tip: People like seeing the face behind the brand! Do you have any photos or videos of you from when you started? Or photos of you in your element from a branding session?)

  8. Share your favorite tools: Let’s stop gatekeeping and start helping each other! We’re all going to grow together if we help each other. Share your favorite tools that you use. I’ll go first! I use Lightroom to edit my photos and one thing that has changed my editing game is syncing edits!

  9. Inspiration: Who/what has inspired you lately? Is it a book, a podcast, a person, or a recent conference you went to?

  10. Show BTS (behind the scenes): Unboxing videos, photography sessions, etc.

  11. GRWM (Get Ready with Me): Take a video of yourself getting ready for the day, a meeting, a session, etc.

  12. Testimonial: Create a graphic of one of your favorite testimonials

  13. Share your weekend: What did you do over the weekend? Did you spend time with friends and family? Did you try out a new restaurant?! Let your followers get to know you better. You could do this in a form of a reel, a carousel, or on your story!

  14. Mother’s Day

  15. How-to: If you sell clothes, show how you can style a new jacket in three different ways.

  16. Introduction post: Tell your followers a little bit about yourself. You can include some fun facts. Use 1+ photo(s) of you that shows off your personality from your last branding session!

  17. Self-Care: It’s Mental Health Awareness Month… show how you take care of yourself. It could be exercise, healthy recipes, or meditation. Share your story or tips to help others.

  18. Throwback Thursday: Show a photo of you from when it all started.

  19. A lesson: Share a teachable moment from a client call or experience

  20. Event: Share an event you’ve recently attended or one you are preparing for

  21. Repost: Lazy? Absolutely not! Okay… maybe. But it’s smart! Repost your past content that did really well. Because chances are, some people haven’t seen it! And if it did well the first time, it may go well the second time! Work smarter, not harder, right? ;)

  22. Things you can’t live without: This could be for your personal life or things you NEED for your business. (Tip: You could create a blog post on this and repurpose everything you wrote! I’m currently working on a blog post on tools I love as a content creator, and I will definitely be repurposing it for my social media!)

  23. This or That: We love a good interactive post! Let your followers choose this or that! If you’re a realtor, you can ask your followers if they’d rather have a walk-in closet or an indoor pool. If you sell makeup, you can ask your followers if they’d rather have the warm eyeshadow palette or the cool eyeshadow palette.

  24. Gratitude: What are you grateful for? Tell your followers some things you’ve been grateful for recently, no matter how big or small. It could be a client who was super kind, or a coffee shop near you that you’ve visited quite a bit over the past week.

  25. FAQ: List 1-3 frequently asked questions you get from clients/customers and elaborate!

  26. Advice to your past self: I think we all have some things we wish we could’ve told our past selves. Get vulnerable and tell your followers… they might be in the same boat!

  27. Before and After: This could be anything. If you’re a photographer, it could be before and after a photo edit. If you’re an interior designer, it could be before and after you decorated a home.

  28. Client Story: Tell a client success story or feature a new or regular client.

  29. Memorial Day

  30. Your favorite photo of you: Show your face and tell your followers a story! It could even be a story behind the photo of you.

  31. National Smile Day: Share things from this month that made you smile for an end-of-the-month recap!

Other things to consider:

  • Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

  • Jewish American Heritage Month

  • National Photography Month (shoutout to my photography community!)
